It should be no surprise that several of our previous interview subjects, most recently Wendy Williams and Vicki Richter, have told about the influence British trans adult superstar Joanna Jet has had on them. Joanna is one of the most important actresses in the trans erotica scene, and a mentor to many performers. Her web site is also sizzling hot, offering some of the best trans content available -- and loads of it.

Recently, Joanna was kind enough to take a few moments out of her travels to chat with us.

EZ: You've traveled to many places around the world. Where have you been? Any impressions as to how people respond to erotic performers over the world?

JJ: I have traveled to over a dozen US states, virtually every country in Western Europe, a few in the Eastern Block as well as North and South Africa and Japan. I have yet to visit Asia or South America. Throughout all countries with a western society, the response is very similar, this being first of all curiosity and then general surprise at finding out that we are driven and affected by the same things as those in any other industry.

EZ: One of my favorite parts of your site is where you take questions from your fans. Seems like a lot of them want to get involved with you to be in your videos! Do you ever meet up with fans and work with them on video or photo projects?

JJ: Whilst I did make a number of such attempts in the earlier days, the reality proved much more daunting for fans than the fantasy suggested. As I release commercial product, my shoots are very structured and very professional and this strips away any opportunity for ambience, which makes it very difficult for anyone but a pro to get aroused. My ability to get it up on cue whilst directing from on-set does little to settle first-time nerves too!!

EZ: Several of our previous profile subjects have talked about you as a mentor and influence -- recently, Vicki Richter and Wendy Williams. How does it feel to mentor other performers? How do you see your role as such as far as the trans erotica community?

JJ: I have always been keen to assist other performers in gaining greater independence and acquiring control over their content and I feel humbled when my name is therefore mentioned in such a context. I have always considered that my status and position gave me a voice that I should use to challenge the bigotry and prejudice that is still prevalent within the US porn industry. The 2006 AVN awards made it very clear that transsexuals are still considered as 2nd class citizens to their male and female counterparts. What has become apparent in recent times though is that having such a political agenda has not proven to be in the best interest of my career as a performer or for the success of my production company.

EZ: You play with a lot of different looks and personas and costumes on your site. What types are your favorites? What's your favorite role to play?

JJ: I do have a very strong penchant for fetish and although this has not been a major trait on my web site to date, I hope to address that over the coming months. I have a very dominant personality and my favorite roles are those that reflect this trait such as the fetish domme, the business exec, the manipulating seductress etc...

EZ: Who are some of your favorite models and performers to work with?

JJ: I very much enjoy working with experienced performers who carry their own very unique style as this makes for an exciting shoot that challenges one's own abilities and thereby brings out one's best. Examples of such performers for me are Vicki Richter and Danielle Foxxx.

EZ: Who shoots the photos on your site? Who are your favorite photographers to work with?

JJ: As my web site has been up and running since 2001, many photographers have contributed their skills to it's content. In recent times, Johnny Rebel, a well established UK porn producer, has shot many of the sets and I have also had the opportunity to learn from his experience which has greatly improved the technical aspects of my own photography. To this day, I still consider Harlot to be the best porn photographer I have modeled for, as she had the ability to capture that "heat" better than anyone I have ever known. Sadly, the end of our relationship also resulted in her leaving the biz; tragic on all counts.

EZ: Within the adult industry, whose work do you truly admire?

JJ: Jenna Jameson, for taking herself and the whole industry with her to new levels and for being such a positive representative of the adult entertainment world. Michael Ninn, for taking the production quality of adult movies beyond all expectations. Ben Dover, for being the English bloke that defined hardcore gonzo. Larry Flynt, for taking on and winning the battle that made my choice to pursue a career as an adult entertainer and performer a legal right.

EZ: What plans do you have for the future? Do you have any new areas you'd like to branch out into?

JJ: My plans for the future are to continue to increase my production rate year-on-year and to try and further push the envelope as a transsexual performer. I would like to branch out into producing and directing adult feature films but as this is very much a high-risk venture, I will have to wait until my production company has sufficient financial flexibility.

EZ: Thanks, Joanna! Our readers can keep up with Joanna Jet at her website.
